A homoeopathic paediatrician, a counselling expert and a freelance writer are a few words to describe my profession. My sole aim is to put forth practical piece of information that guides every one right in the direction, blending the medicos to a layman with a simple gesture to make the medical things a little less convoluted and comprehendible.

Diabetes is one of the most common and dreaded condition as neither it can be cured or can it be stopped from occurrence. The only thing possible is controlling it through regular administration of medications, controlled diet and exercises.  Hence, the moment first signs of diabetes start showing, it’s advisable to get your blood checked. How to recognize its symptoms? Here are given some signs which mark the onset of diabetes. If some of them match with your physical condition then you should surely check your blood sugar level.

Check out some of the signs of diabetes as follows:

  • There are two types of diabetes- Type 1 or juvenile diabetes which afflicts the young generation and Type 2 diabetes, more diagnosed amongst people above 40. The symptoms of Type 1 diabetes are not much visible whereas the Type 2 diabetes distinctively shows certain symptoms.
  • Hunger is one of the major indications. People having diabetes tend to get hungrier more and at regular intervals even though they are taking their normal diet. Excessive hunger is the result of increased blood sugar level in the initial days of diabetes. Some of the people cannot stop eating even when they have their stomach fully loaded and some patients simply do not notice their stomach getting full and keep on eating.
  • Dehydration or alteration in the mental state is another indication. At the onset of diabetes, the body do not store or produce potassium due to which dehydration problem occurs. At times due to alteration in mental state, the patient can also go in coma. The most important alteration is loss of concentration or inability to stay concentrated on some work or topic for long time.
  • Agitation, frustration, irritation are some another symptoms associated with diabetes. Although these symptoms are also related to old age, but if the diabetes is progressing then you sort of feel restless and uneasy which leads to frustration and irritation. This can further lead to depression.
  • Frequent urination is another sign. Waking up for urination once in night can be a regular habit for some, but if the same person has to get up 3 to 4 times during night for going to the loo, then it really can be the harbinger of diabetes.
  • In many cases sudden weight loss can be the sign of diabetes. If you are neither on diet nor taking any special efforts to loose weight, then sudden loss of weight should be taken seriously. It can be due to thyroid as well, but the more possibility is diabetes.
  • Hands getting numb when held in one position for long or if sores and injuries take more time than necessary for healing, it can be warning of the onset of diabetes.
  • Some other signs include increase in the number of specs or low visibility, frequent perspiration even in cold condition without any cause etc.

So, if your body is showing any such indication or signs then its high time you go to your health care practitioner and get your blood glucose level checked. It’s always better to be cautious!
